The Amazon Explorers is our signature 5-day tour from Manaus — designed to give first-time visitors a complete picture of the Amazon ecosystem. You'll move between two conservation areas with very different characters: the terra firme upland forest to the north, rich in canopy birds and primates; and a private natural heritage reserve to the south, where flooded forest and open rivers meet. Your guide is a specialist naturalist — not a generalist. Every question gets a real answer.

Day 1

Tower for Birds — Ducke Reserve

Your expedition begins at 5:00 AM. We depart Manaus for the Adolpho Ducke Reserve, home to one of the most diverse canopy towers in the Amazon. From above the forest canopy you'll spot macaws, toucans, parrots, and raptors as the jungle wakes up around you. After a regional breakfast, we travel to our eco-lodge in the Rio Negro basin — your base for the coming days. The afternoon is spent exploring the Igapó flooded forest by canoe, gliding silently through submerged trees while your guide reads every rustle and call.

Day 2

Mammals of the Amazon

5:30 AM. The canoe cuts through the mist on the Várzea floodplain — the most species-rich habitat in the basin. Sloths hang motionless overhead, three-fingered and completely unconcerned. Monkeys disappear between branches. Birds flock at the water's edge. In the morning, there is an optional visit to pink river dolphin habitat — an experience most visitors consider the highlight of their entire trip. The afternoon takes us into the Rio Negro highlands for further wildlife observation before returning to the lodge.

Day 3

Water Lilies — Madeira & Purus Rivers

We travel deep into the Amazon basin, heading ~100 km south toward the Madeira and Purus rivers — a region few tourists ever reach. The interfluvium between river systems creates remarkable biodiversity gradients that your naturalist guide will explain in detail. The afternoon is dedicated to wildlife reconnaissance, and after dinner, a night canoe tour brings you face-to-face with caimans, nocturnal frogs, and the sounds of a jungle that never truly sleeps.

Day 4

Jungle Walk & Indigenous Culture

This is the day most guests remember longest. A morning trek through primary rainforest with your naturalist guide, who stops at every medicinal plant, points out camouflaged insects, and identifies amphibians by their call. The trail reveals a living pharmacy — centuries of indigenous knowledge embedded into the forest. In the afternoon, you visit an indigenous family in their home, learning about traditional artifacts, food production, and ethnobotany in an authentic, respectful setting.

Day 5

Várzea at Dawn — Return to Manaus

One final 5:30 AM canoe through the Várzea floodplain at first light — monkeys, iguanas, sloths, and an orchestra of birds marking the end of an extraordinary expedition. After breakfast and free time at the lodge, we depart at 2:00 PM, stopping at the Meeting of the Waters — where the dark Rio Negro and pale Solimões run side by side without mixing for miles. You arrive in Manaus carrying stories that will last a lifetime.
